At 62 I had literally and emotionally hit a wall. After 50 years (yes, I was around 12 when I attended my first WW meeting) I had reached a point where I didn’t know what to eat, how much to eat, when to eat. My food thoughts were all consuming. A friend suggested I reach out to Leah to learn more about Intuitive Eating to help me feel less stressed about eating. Leah and Lynsey’s Finding Food Freedom Sessions was insightful and enlightening. The modules were designed around real life scenarios and challenges, and the tools and advice they provided was designed to help participants practice self-care and to learn how to start recognizing our Imposed food rules and the emotions or reasons behind them. It is not a magic bullet, nor is it a « diet », but rather a philosophy that gives us cause for pause. I am happy to say that I continue on my journey and I am no longer stressing about eating.
I completed the Finding Food Freedom course because I was sick of food controlling my life. I had tried every diet and was stuck in a cycle of restricting and bingeing, and I felt ashamed of how out of control I felt around food. I felt like there was something wrong with me.
From the first module I felt relief. The stories and examples shared by Leah and Lynsey were so relatable and helped me see that my relationship with food was not unique. They helped me to understand what outside forces have shaped my food beliefs over the years, and for the first time I realized that those could be changed. Since completing the course, I feel like food has lot a lot of power over my life.
I use the skills from these modules every day. I am learning to have compassion for myself and learning to listen to my body. I am forever thankful for Leah and Lynsey for their kindness and wisdom.
While the concept of Intuitive Eating is relatively simple in theory, the process is complex, nuanced, and dynamic. The Finding Food Freedom program modules developed and presented by Leah and Lynsey, provide practical, clear and concise perspectives on the Intuitive Eating principles from both a nutritional and psychological perspective over the 7 week program.
This journey will look different for each individual, and everyone moves along at their own pace. I’m a work in progress and relieved to know there is a support network available through Leah and Lindsay. What I’ve learned is it’s all about building trust with and learning to respect my body, making peace with food, and removing the stress and shame from eating.
